Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz’s landmark poem Primero Sueño (First Dream) is widely considered one of the greatest literary works of the Hispanic Baroque. The text is intimate and highly symbolic, full of curiosity and insight on mysticism, feminism, and the power of the natural world at large.

Now, in a collaboration between composer Paola Prestini and jazz icon Magos Herrera, the words of Sor Juana find an operatic voice for the very first time as her spiritual journey transforms into a physical procession through the sacred spaces of The Met Cloisters. Herrera herself plays Sor Juana alongside the acclaimed Leipzig-based vocal ensemble Sjaella and a team of virtuoso multi-instrumentalists. Visionary arts leader Louisa Proske (The Mother of Us All at The Met) directs. Join us for this singular exploration of one of history's great minds.
